Investigation launched into mobile service tariff hike

The Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has announced a probe into the recent increase in prices for mobile communication services in Uzbekistan.

The committee noted that requests were sent to mobile operators at the beginning of November to examine whether the recent tariff increases were justified.

Currently, the submitted information on how operators’ expenditures to improve service quality and expand network coverage affect pricing is under review.

''If any legal violations are identified during the review, including signs of coordinated actions, a full investigation will be initiated," the report stated.

Moreover, if these findings are confirmed, companies will face strict measures in accordance with the law.

It is worth noting that during a video conference on artificial intelligence development chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 21 October, it was reported that 99% of settlements in Uzbekistan are covered by mobile networks.
