The independence of former Soviet states, including Uzbekistan, is unacceptable. Such remarks were made by Alexander Dugin, one of the ideologues of the “Russian World” concept and a pro-Kremlin propagandist, who openly denied the sovereignty of Central Asian countries.

According to Dugin, these republics should be brought under Russia’s control.

“The existence of sovereign Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, sovereign Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan is unacceptable. In the new reality, there is no place for sovereignty. They will either be on our side, as part of a single union with us, or they will become a foothold for the West, the European Union, America, and in some cases China,” he said.

Dugin also emphasized that a “tripolar world” is taking shape and that within this system Russia should become a “center of power” and strengthen its control over surrounding territories.

“Our goal is to become one of the most important centers of power in a tripolar world: a sovereign, free, independent, and great state. Any territory we do not control will not remain neutral. It will not turn into a peaceful ‘Switzerland.’ On the contrary, it will become a stronghold of other poles, primarily the more conflict-driven pole led by the United States,” he added.

For reference, Dugin is commonly associated with neo-Eurasianist ideas and is widely known for his anti-Western and anti-liberal positions, which have sparked controversy across various platforms. Although he does not hold an official government position, many analysts note that his views often resonate with decisions made by the Kremlin.

It is worth noting that in recent months, dismissive rhetoric from Russia regarding the independence of Central Asian states has increasingly spread on social media. On January 10, Russian TV host and another Kremlin-aligned propagandist, Vladimir Solovyov, said during a live broadcast that the so-called “special military operation” carried out in Ukraine should also be extended to “other territories within Russia’s sphere of influence,” including Central Asian countries and Armenia.

According to Solovyov, Russia must clearly and firmly state which territories belong to it. He also argued that, if necessary, Russia should launch “special military operations” similar to the campaign in Ukraine to achieve this goal.

Shortly afterward, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on Solovyov’s remarks about launching a “special military operation” in Central Asia and Armenia.

Zakharova stated that the journalist’s comments do not reflect Moscow’s official position, stressing that Solovyov had expressed his personal views on his own channel. She added that official statements are made by authorized officials, not by commentators speaking from their couches.
