President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today, December 16, visited a large-capacity cogeneration power plant built in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent. This was reported by the Presidential Press Service.

In order to ensure stable and uninterrupted heat supply to the population and economic facilities of the capital during the winter season, a number of modern cogeneration units that simultaneously generate electricity and heat are being commissioned in Tashkent. One such major project is the 100 MW cogeneration plant constructed under a public-private partnership at the site of Heat Supply Center No. 4 in Yunusabad district. The project, implemented in cooperation with China’s CNTIC company, occupies an area of 3.5 hectares and was financed through 65 million dollars in direct foreign investment.

The Head of State familiarized himself with the plant’s operations. The cogeneration facility is equipped with 70 gas piston units manufactured by the UK-based company Rolls-Royce. The heat supply infrastructure from boiler houses to consumers has been reconstructed, heat pipelines have been upgraded, and networks have been replaced with insulated pipes, significantly reducing energy losses.

Once fully operational, the facility will generate 876 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 858,000 gigacalories of heat energy annually. In addition, it will save 35 million cubic meters of natural gas per year. As a result, a total of 1,846 facilities located in the Yunusabad, Olmazor, Shaykhontohur, Mirzo Ulugbek, and Yakkasaray districts of Tashkent will receive stable heat supply. Of these, 1,400 are residential buildings, while the rest are social facilities. Moreover, 292,000 households will be provided with a reliable supply of electricity.

The launch of the project will reduce heat production costs by 40–45 percent. Emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere will decrease significantly, and wastewater discharges will be eliminated. During the visit, the President also reviewed presentations on preparations for the autumn-winter season, development of heat supply centers, modernization of the Tashkent thermal power plant, improvements to urban infrastructure, and the allocation of forces and resources to respond to extreme cold conditions.

There are currently 11,630 multi-storey residential buildings in Tashkent, serviced by 358 management service companies. The President inquired about their level of readiness for the winter season.

“In an urban environment, the work of management service companies is closely linked to the daily lives of residents. Therefore, they must operate precisely and continuously, like clockwork. The necessary conditions for this are being created. From now on, the mindset and approach of employees in this sector must also change. It is important to stay informed about residents’ needs and to properly maintain basements, rooftops, corridors, and playgrounds in apartment buildings,” the President said.

Relevant instructions were also given to officials responsible for the energy, urban improvement, construction, and service sectors to ensure systematic and coordinated work throughout the season.
