Individuals involved in manufacturing and selling fake vehicle license plates have been identified in Samarkand Region following investigative actions, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan.
According to the report, two residents of the Mirzo Ulugbek Street area in the Qarshi Yo‘li neighborhood of Samarkand produced more than 30 counterfeit license plates and sold them to customers for a fee.
It was also established that they had been engaged in this illegal activity for about one month. During the operation, the fake license plates were confiscated and taken to Internal Affairs Department No. 5, and explanatory measures were carried out with the offenders.
“We learned how to make vehicle license plates through social media and started producing them. We also made rear ‘bort’ panels for cars. Later, we created an Instagram page and advertised our services. Through these advertisements, we sold souvenir license plates resembling official ones to more than 30 people across the country at 200,000 soums each, earning approximately 8–9 million soums. We only realized that this activity was illegal after being brought to the internal affairs department. We deeply regret our actions and do not recommend that anyone engage in such activities,” one of the suspects said.
Preliminary investigative actions are currently being carried out by the Samarkand City Department for Coordination of Internal Affairs Bodies.
It is worth noting that earlier, a driver of a ZIL-53 vehicle was penalized for driving with a plate bearing the inscription “Farrux” instead of an official license plate.
