SCO Border Services approves joint operation plan in Bishkek

The 11th meeting of the heads of the authorized bodies of the Border Services of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held today, July 10, in Bishkek under the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and representatives from the border agencies of Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the Executive Committee of the SCO Border Guard.

During the session, participants exchanged assessments of the current situation along the state borders of SCO member countries, discussed regional security trends, and shared forecasts. They also reviewed the results of the joint border operation "Birdamlik–2024," which was held earlier this year, and formally approved its outcomes. In addition, the meeting approved the plan for preparing and conducting the next operation, "Birdamlik–2025."

The work plan for the Expert Group of the Border Services of SCO member states for the year 2026 was also approved. Participants discussed proposals regarding the location and dates of the next meeting.

The meeting emphasized that the exchange of perspectives and the development of coordinated positions on combating emerging challenges and threats at the borders will enhance cooperation among the SCO's border services and strengthen mutual security and trust at the borders.

It is worth noting that on June 26 of this year, the defense ministers of SCO member states failed to issue a joint statement following their meeting in Qingdao, China. The reason was Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s refusal to sign the final document, which did not include any mention of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
