Uzbekistan and Sweden have signed a joint declaration on cooperation in the field of migration and labor migration. This was reported by the Migration Agency of Uzbekistan.
According to the report, a meeting was held between the Head of the Migration Agency, Behzod Musayev, and the Minister for Migration of Sweden, Johan Forssell, focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of migration.
The constructive dialogue addressed key issues such as preventing illegal migration and establishing convenient, transparent, and organized migration mechanisms that prioritize the protection of human rights.
“Today, due to demographic changes in Sweden, there is a shortage of personnel in the transport, construction, industry, healthcare, education, and service sectors. Uzbekistan has sufficient potential to train and supply qualified specialists to the Swedish labor market,” the report stated.
The parties proposed the following main initiatives:
- Creation of a centralized digital platform between Uzbekistan and Sweden;
- Launch of pilot projects aimed at training highly qualified Uzbek personnel in the construction, logistics, and medical sectors based on the needs of Swedish employers, with guaranteed employment in Sweden.
During the meeting, a joint declaration on cooperation in the field of migration and labor migration was signed. The document is expected to help curb illegal migration, strengthen information exchange, and enhance consular support mechanisms.
“I am confident that the historic document signed today marks an important step in elevating Uzbek-Swedish relations to a new level and strengthening our active cooperation in the future. Although this is my first visit to your country, I am deeply impressed by its rapidly developing economy and the positive opportunities in all areas,” said Johan Forssell, Sweden’s Minister for Migration.
