Videos circulating on social media show riots breaking out during the distribution of coal to residents in the Baysun district of Surkhandarya region. The district administration has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
According to the statement, the unrest occurred on October 8 at a coal warehouse located in the “Boshrabot” neighborhood. A total of 278 tons of coal had been delivered for distribution to residents for the autumn-winter season. Announcements about the availability of low-priced state-distributed coal were shared in local neighborhood Telegram groups.
Afterward, some residents who gathered at the warehouse attempted to collect coal without following the established schedule, leading to disorder and riots.
The situation was brought under control with the assistance of law enforcement officers and other responsible agencies. Priority was given to distributing coal to residents living in remote, mountainous parts of the district.
To prevent similar incidents, authorities plan to distribute coal according to the established schedule within each neighborhood while maintaining public order.
“At the same time, to ensure residents are provided with the necessary fuel during the autumn-winter season, it is planned to deliver a total of 3,036 tons of coal to the district for 2025–2026. Currently, 1,325 tons of coal have already been supplied to the population,” the report stated.
It is worth noting that earlier, a person named Otabek Vallomov was sentenced to six years and six months in prison for organizing a brawl with his friends at the Verona computer game club on Oftob Street in Fergana.
