The territories of Qiziriq district in Surkhandarya region and Zarafshan city in Navoi region are set to be expanded. The relevant draft resolutions were reviewed at a regular session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on April 21.

During the session, deputies first reviewed a draft resolution “On changing the boundaries of Qiziriq and Jarqo‘rg‘on districts of Surkhandarya region.” Under the proposed changes, 4,740 hectares of land will be transferred from Jarqo‘rg‘on district to Qiziriq district.

It was noted that the changes are expected to improve economic management of the districts and enhance living conditions for 4,230 residents across 731 households, while also strengthening social support. The measures are also aimed at developing agriculture, particularly livestock farming, increasing employment, and promoting the socio-economic development of Qiziriq district.

The session noted that the proposed boundary changes had been discussed and approved by relevant local citizens’ assemblies, district councils of people’s deputies, and the regional council, along with the cartographic plans and descriptions of the new boundaries.

Deputies also reviewed a draft resolution “On changing the boundaries of Zarafshan city and Tomdi district of Navoi region.” According to the proposal, 2,459 hectares of land will be transferred from Tomdi district to the territory of Zarafshan city.

A long-term development plan for Zarafshan city предусматривает the construction of residential housing, industrial facilities, social infrastructure, and service sector объектов. In particular, more than 250 industrial and production projects, 90 social facilities, and over 500 trade and service outlets are planned under a long-term business strategy.

It was noted that the boundary changes were discussed and approved by relevant local assemblies, as well as the councils of Zarafshan city and Tomdi district and the regional council, including the cartographic plans and boundary descriptions.

The draft resolutions were approved by deputies.

It should be recalled that in September 2025, a similar decision was adopted to expand the territory of Kattakurgan city in Samarkand region by 2,900 hectares following boundary changes involving Kattakurgan city, Kattakurgan district, and Nurobod district.
