The area of green zones in Tashkent and its surrounding areas will be tripled to reach 25,000 hectares. The plans were presented on February 25 during a briefing attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on proposals to develop urbanization processes and expand green spaces in the capital.

According to the presentation, Tashkent’s economy and agglomeration have grown rapidly in recent years, with the city’s permanent population exceeding 3.1 million people. By 2045, the population is projected to more than double. This growth requires urbanization processes to develop in proportion to increasing demands on housing, transport and logistics, engineering networks, and social infrastructure.

Expanding green areas has been identified as a priority task aimed at improving the urban environment and enhancing quality of life. Specifically, the plan предусматривает increasing the total area of green zones in Tashkent and its surroundings threefold to 25,000 hectares and raising per capita green space from 3 square meters to 6 square meters.

To date, developers have submitted 85 construction proposals covering a total area of 2,679 hectares. The presentation provided information on the comprehensive review of these projects.

During the assessment process, particular attention was given to evaluating each project based on a unified urban planning approach, ensuring that at least 30 percent of the territory is allocated to green space, promoting comprehensive renewal of outdated areas through renovation, and abandoning the practice of small, densely built developments on land plots of up to one hectare.

As a result of the review, it was proposed to approve 18 projects, revise 12 projects by adjusting land size, number of floors, and project concepts, and fully reconsider 54 projects at the conceptual level.

Plans to expand the “Yangi Avlod” special industrial zone in the Yangihayot district were also discussed. The expansion would enable the gradual relocation of large industrial enterprises from central Tashkent and the placement of high value-added, environmentally compliant production facilities.

Implementation of the approved projects is expected to generate an additional $1.5 billion in gross regional product annually from the construction sector, bring 3.5 trillion soums in budget revenues, and create 260,000 jobs.

Special attention was given to the expansion of green areas. It was stipulated that at least 30 percent of project territories — approximately 400 hectares — must be designated as green space. In addition, plans to establish new public parks covering a total of 134 hectares in nine areas of Tashkent were reviewed and approved.

It was emphasized that infrastructure fees collected from these projects should primarily be directed toward the creation of new green spaces, with the remaining funds allocated to the construction of urban infrastructure facilities.

The President instructed responsible officials to ensure that urbanization processes in the capital are developed in line with public interests, a healthy environment, and environmental requirements.
