A lawyer in the Tashkent region demanded 30,000 US dollars in exchange for securing the release of a prisoner. This was reported by the State Security Service.
According to the report, the lawyer, who worked at a law firm in the region, promised to arrange the release of a citizen serving a sentence in a penal institution through his official connections. In return, he demanded 30,000 US dollars from the convict’s spouse.
During an operational raid, the lawyer was detained with material evidence while receiving an advance payment of 20,000 US dollars.
It was also noted that this lawyer had previously been convicted of a crime related to drug trafficking.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 168 (fraud), Part 4, Clause “a,” and Article 28,211 (bribery), Part 3, Clause “a” of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied, and investigative actions are currently underway.
It should be recalled that earlier in the Surkhandarya region, another lawyer was detained after receiving a 50,000 US dollar bribe to secure a lighter sentence for an accused person.
