Internal affairs unit head detained with bribe in Tashkent

A criminal case has been opened against the head of a unit of internal affairs bodies in Tashkent. The State Security Service reported this.

According to the report, an operation was carried out jointly by the State Security Service, the Main Department of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Tashkent city prosecutor’s office as part of anti-corruption efforts.

In particular, the head of a unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Shaykhontohur District Department for Coordination of Internal Affairs demanded a total of $7,500. He allegedly demanded $7,000 in exchange for resolving, through his official acquaintances, a criminal case opened under Article 168 of the Criminal Code, which covers fraud, against a person engaged in entrepreneurial activity. He also demanded $500 to terminate another criminal case opened over burns suffered by an employee of the same person’s restaurant after a fire at the establishment.

During the operation, the official was detained with physical evidence while receiving $2,500 in advance.

A criminal case has been opened against him, and investigative actions are underway.

Earlier, two officials were detained in Andijan region for abusing their official authority and demanding money from citizens.
