Uzbekistan held to draw by Tajikistan

On January 28, the Uzbekistan national futsal team played its opening match at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup. In the first round, the team coached by Nodir Eliboyev drew 0–0 with the Tajikistan national team.

Following the draw against Tajikistan in the opening round of Group C, Uzbekistan earned one point. In the group’s other match, Japan defeated Australia 6–2 to take the lead in the group standings.

Uzbekistan will play its next match against Australia on January 30.

For reference, the Uzbekistan national team is one of four teams that have participated in every edition of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Iran, Japan, and Thailand are the other teams that have never missed the continental championship.

In the history of the tournament, Uzbekistan has reached the final four times, finishing as runners-up on each occasion, and has also won the bronze medal six times.
