At a meeting of the energy and water management ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan in Almaty, the countries agreed on cooperation parameters in the water and energy sector and measures for mutual support, the Uzbek Ministry of Energy reported.
The parties decided to coordinate joint efforts to support each other through electricity supply, ensure a successful heating season, and prepare for the next vegetation period, taking into account the complex situation at the Toktogul Reservoir.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan confirmed their readiness to supply electricity to Kyrgyzstan during the autumn-winter period. This will allow Kyrgyzstan to reduce electricity production in winter and accumulate water at the Toktogul Reservoir. The stored water will be directed to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to ensure stable irrigation of agricultural lands in the southern regions during the vegetation period.
In addition, the countries agreed on joint measures to reduce consumption and save energy in the region.
“Participants emphasized that cooperation is being carried out in a spirit of good neighborliness and is aimed at strengthening energy security and sustainability across Central Asia. The Uzbek side also confirmed its readiness to provide technical conditions for transit, supply, and balancing of the energy system,” the report said.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a trilateral protocol that legally formalizes the volumes of winter electricity supply and water accumulation for the 2026 vegetation period.
Previously, it was reported that Uzbekistan will continue supplying electricity to Afghanistan in 2026.
