On May 10, during a meeting in Moscow, the Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan, Major General Shukhrat Kholmukhammedov, and the newly appointed Russian Minister of Defense, Andrei Belousov, signed a plan to implement a strategic partnership program in the military sphere between the two countries for the period 2026–2030. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the development.
“As a result of the negotiations, the parties signed a plan for the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Program in the military sphere between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2026–2030,” the official statement reads.
In his remarks, Minister Belousov emphasized that Russia would never forget the sacrifices made by the Uzbek SSR during World War II. He noted that Uzbekistan played a key role in supporting the Soviet Army from the rear and in supplying military-technical equipment in the fight against fascism.
Major General Kholmukhammedov, in turn, thanked his Russian counterpart for the support and arrangements made for the participation of Uzbek military personnel in the Victory Parade held in Moscow.
Notably, on May 9, a large-scale military parade took place in Moscow to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II. Uzbek troops, alongside those from several other countries, took part in the event.
Earlier in Tashkent, the defense ministries of Uzbekistan and Russia signed a cooperation plan for 2025, as well as the strategic partnership program covering 2026–2030.
