Divorces increased, marriages decreased in Uzbekistan – statistics

The number of marriages in Uzbekistan fell during the first six months of this year, while the number of divorces continued to grow. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.
According to the data, 95.3 thousand marriages were registered from January to June this year. Compared to the same period in 2024, this is a decrease of 2.1 thousand.
More than half of the marriages – 48.7 thousand (51.1 percent) – were registered in urban areas, while 46.6 thousand (48.9 percent) were in rural areas.
At the same time, 23.3 thousand couples divorced in the first half of the year, an increase of 0.8 thousand compared to last year. Most divorces were recorded in urban areas, where 14.1 thousand couples (60.6 percent) separated, compared to 9.2 thousand couples (39.4 percent) in rural areas.
By region, the highest number of divorces was recorded in Tashkent city (1.5 thousand), followed by Tashkent and Fergana regions (1.2 thousand each). The lowest number of divorces was in Navoi region, with 310 cases.
It should be noted that under the law adopted on April 9 this year, no waiting period is required for divorce in cases where the applicant is a victim of domestic violence.
