Methane prices in Uzbekistan sharply increase

In October 2025, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan released data showing how food, non-food items, and service prices have changed over the past year.

According to the report, the annual price of methane rose sharply by 30.5 percent during the month. Meanwhile, gasoline prices increased by 11.7 percent, wedding rings by 33.4 percent, newspapers and magazines by 15.3 percent, cigarettes by 9.6 percent, and natural flowers by 9.8 percent.

However, the price of propane dropped by 18 percent, air conditioners by 1.3 percent, televisions by 0.3 percent, and paper by 3.9 percent.

Among 250 types of non-food products included in the consumer price index, 243 items—or 97 percent—showed an annual price increase of less than 10 percent.

The most notable price increases were recorded for boneless and bone-in beef (25.3 and 24.2 percent, respectively), cabbage (24.7 percent), sunflower oil (22.6 percent), and onions (18.9 percent).

Among food products, peach prices fell by 28.7 percent, watermelon by 21.8 percent, long-grain and round-grain rice by 18 percent, cucumbers by 17.6 percent, and bananas by 15.1 percent.

It was also noted that among 170 food products included in the consumer price index, 150 items (88 percent) showed an annual price increase of less than 10 percent.

In the services sector, the cost of money transfers fell by 4.8 percent, and microfinance services by 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, state kindergartens became 21 percent more expensive, central heating rose by 20.9 percent, and electricity prices increased by 18.8 percent.

Additionally, the following price increases were recorded:

  •  Domestic flights — up by 52.3 percent
  •  Piped gas — up by 39.2 percent
  •  Cold water — up by 35.1 percent
  •  Museum services — up by 32.3 percent
  •  Waste collection — up by 28.6 percent
  •  Liquefied gas — up by 25 percent
  •  Urban bus fares — up by 22.3 percent

Uzbekistan’s annual inflation rate fell to 7.8 percent, down by 2.4 percentage points compared to last year.

It is worth noting that earlier, the price of methane gas at automobile filling stations in Uzbekistan had risen to 5,200 soums.
