On 28 November this year, immediately after the Friday prayer, all mosques in Uzbekistan will perform a two-rak’ah Istisqa prayer seeking rainfall. This was reported by the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan.
“Our Prophet (peace be upon him), during times when rain did not fall and water shortages occurred, would face the qibla together with the congregation and make supplication. It is narrated that he would then lead them in prayer. The virtue of the Istisqa prayer, in which believers ask Allah the Almighty for rain, is described in the hadith collections.
This year, autumn has passed without rain, and no precipitation is expected in the coming days. Since rain is a source of sustenance and abundance, the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazar, has initiated the performance of the two-rak’ah Istisqa prayer in all mosques across the country on 28 November 2025, immediately after the Friday prayer. Worshippers will appeal to Allah with repentance and supplication, asking for rain,” the statement said.
In addition, livestock will be sacrificed at regional, district and city central mosques, as well as at pilgrimage sites. The meat will be distributed to families in need, orphans, widows, the poor and elderly people who have lost their breadwinners.
According to the Board, teachers and students of higher and secondary Islamic educational institutions under its administration will complete the recitation of Imam Bukhari’s “Sahih al-Bukhari” before the Friday prayer on 28 November.
Imams leading Umrah groups currently in Mecca and Medina have also been advised to perform the Istisqa prayer with their groups in the holy sanctuaries.
