Uzhydromet issues emergency warning for potential landslides and floods

The Center of Hydrometeorological Services of Uzbekistan (Uzhydromet) has issued an emergency warning due to anticipated heavy rainfall from May 17 to 19. The downpours are expected to trigger landslides and localized flooding in several mountainous and foothill areas across the country.
According to the warning, the following regions are at risk of landslides and floods:
Kashkadarya Region: Yakkabag, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, and Guzar districts.
Surkhandarya Region: Sariosiyo, Uzun, Oltinsoy, Denov, Boysun, Sherabad, Shorchi, Kumkurgan, and Muzrabat districts.
Samarkand Region: Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Kushrabot, Kattakurgan, Payarik, Jambay, and Ishtikhan districts.
Navoi Region: Khatirchi, Navbahor, Nurota, Konimekh, and Karmana districts.
Jizzakh Region: Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish, and Yangiabad districts.
Tashkent Region: Ahangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Orta Chirchik, Yukori Chirchik districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk.
Namangan Region: Pop, Kosonsoy, Chortoq, Chust, Namangan, and Yangikurgan districts.
Fergana Region: Sokh, Shohimardon, Fergana, and Besharik districts.
Andijan Region: Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izboskan, Khojaabad, Markhamat districts, and the city of Khonabad.
Uzhydromet urges residents, especially those living or traveling in mountainous areas, to take precautionary measures. Vacationers and drivers are advised to exercise increased caution due to potential road hazards caused by landslides or floodwaters.
The agency also warns that rainwater accumulation in some areas could lead to localized flooding, particularly in vulnerable or low-lying zones.
