Household air purification devices (TIF TN code 8509 80) imported into Uzbekistan by businesses or individuals will now be exempt from customs duties. This measure was established by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his decree dated November 24, “On Urgent Measures to Improve the Environmental Situation in Tashkent City.”
According to the decree, other equipment is also exempt from customs duties, including:
- Equipment and devices for specialized laboratories,
- Automated small stations (TIF TN code 9027),
- Automatic monitoring stations for environmental measurements (TIF TN code 9027),
- Automated observation posts (TIF TN code 9027),
- Dust and gas purification equipment (TIF TN code 8421),
- Local water purification facilities (TIF TN code 8421).
On November 24, Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of President Mirziyoyev and Head of the Presidential Administration, held a meeting with the Administration and heads of relevant agencies to discuss urgent measures to improve Tashkent’s environmental situation.
During the meeting, officials noted that recent levels of air pollution were alarming and causing rightful concern among the capital’s residents. The situation requires rapid and coordinated action.
For reference, on November 20, Tashkent ranked among the world’s leading cities in terms of air pollution. Experts attribute the spike in pollution to temperature inversions caused by abrupt weather changes, which trap harmful particles close to the ground. To improve air quality, the Tashkent Thermal Power Plant in the Yakkasaray district has ceased using mazut fuel.
Previously, the city had announced projects such as “Green Belt” and “Green Corridor” to increase the number of trees, stabilize the ecological situation, and improve atmospheric air quality.
