The potential revival of the airport, originally built in the 1980s in Zarafshan, Navoi region, is under consideration. During a meeting on November 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed this topic while discussing socio-economic development tasks for the Navoi region.

Currently, the airport in Zarafshan is non-operational. Officials have been tasked with exploring options to reinstate its operations and formulate relevant proposals.

Additionally, it was highlighted during the meeting that the population of Zarafshan is projected to exceed 100,000 in the next 2-3 years. To accommodate this growth, there are plans to expand the city’s territory by 2,000 hectares, drawing from the Tomdi district, to create a living environment for up to 150,000 residents.

As it stands, approximately 200,000 individuals reside in Zarafshan, Uchkuduq, and Tomdi districts. Currently, traveling to Tashkent requires a 250-300 kilometer car journey to Navoi, followed by a train or plane ride to the capital.

Officials have also been instructed to ensure the thorough preparation of social infrastructure and communication networks for the upcoming winter season and to address any existing deficiencies. Furthermore, there are assignments focused on training women, promoting their employment, and enhancing youth engagement.

Previously, President Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the construction of Bukhara International Airport, emphasizing the necessity to double its capacity and facilitate the arrival and departure of eight flights per hour, along with recommendations for the terminal’s amenities, both interior and exterior.
