Lawyer arrested with $6,000 bribe in Jizzakh

A lawyer and his accomplices, who demanded $6,000 in exchange for the release of a convict serving a sentence in a penal colony, have been detained. This was reported by the State Security Service.

It was established that in the city of Jizzakh, a lawyer from the local bar association, abusing his official position, colluded with a citizen born in 1981, a resident of Mirzachul district. Together, they demanded $6,000 in exchange for arranging the early release of a convict serving a sentence in a penal colony in the Gulistan district of the Syrdarya region through their acquaintances in the Jizzakh regional judicial system.

During an urgent operation in Jizzakh, conducted in cooperation with officers of the State Security Service and the prosecutor’s office, the suspects were detained with material evidence while receiving the bribe.

A criminal case has been initiated against the individuals under Article 25.168 (fraud), Part 3, Clause “c,” and Article 28.211 (bribery), Part 1 of the Criminal Code. Investigative measures are underway.

It is worth noting that earlier, a senior assistant to a judge of the Civil Judicial Board of the Andijan Regional Court was arrested with a bribe of 3 million 800 thousand soums.
