Probation inspector detained in Andijan for attempting to extort money from a convict

In Andijan region, a probation service inspector who attempted to illegally extort money from a convicted woman has been dismissed from service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the ministry, the inspector of the regional Department of Internal Affairs probation group entered into an inappropriate, materially motivated relationship with a female convict. He claimed that he had allegedly paid 800,000 soums from his own funds to a company on her behalf over the past two months and demanded 1.6 million soums in return.

Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint with the Main Directorate for Personal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Andijan region.

During a special meeting held by officers of the regional Personal Security Directorate, the inspector’s unlawful actions were reviewed. As a result, he was escorted out of the meeting hall, and subsequently resigned from the internal affairs bodies at his own request.

Earlier, a police officer in the city of Bekobod, Tashkent region, was detained with $10,000 while receiving a bribe.
