The hyperspectral satellite that China plans to launch into space will be named “Samarkand-2028,” symbolically reflecting the International Astronautical Congress to be held in Samarkand in 2028. The information was reported by Uzbekistan’s Space Agency, UzAeroCosmos.

According to the agency, a memorandum on this matter has been signed between UzAeroCosmos and STAR.VISION.

Under the memorandum, specialists from UzAeroCosmos will develop the artificial intelligence module for the satellite, which is designed for remote sensing of the Earth. The images captured by the satellite may be used for preliminary air-quality assessment and for monitoring agricultural crops and forests.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan plans to launch its own scientific and technical satellite into orbit by 2028.
