Earlier, it was reported that Lazizbek Mullajonov, the boxing gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, tested positive for a banned substance. The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation has now commented on the situation.

It was noted that Mullajonov continues his professional boxing career and has consistently complied with anti-doping regulations. His previous doping test results have always been negative. However, on June 11, a doping test was conducted in accordance with international anti-doping regulations, and the International Testing Agency (ITA) issued a letter indicating that the results revealed the presence of prohibited substances.

According to the federation, following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Mullajonov underwent a hair transplant on November 19, 2024, at a private hospital in Fergana. During the four-stage surgery and postoperative recovery, he was administered treatment drugs by the hospital, which are believed to have possibly contained prohibited substances.

The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation and Mullajonov have submitted all necessary documents regarding the matter to the ITA and are currently awaiting a final decision.

“We would like to inform you that the reports circulating on social media about our athlete’s Olympic gold medal being revoked due to doping violations are unfounded. The situation in question will not affect his Olympic results. In this regard, we ask media representatives not to disseminate unverified information and to contact the Boxing Federation of Uzbekistan or Mullajonov directly,” the federation said in a statement.

It should be recalled that two-time Olympic champion Ulugbek Rashidov was previously suspended from competition for two years, from May 13, 2025, to May 12, 2027. He later clarified on social media that the disqualification was not due to the use of banned substances, but rather for failing to comply with venue regulations.
