Robakhon Mahmudova was elected Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan for a five-year term on June 18. The Senate of the Oliy Majlis reported this.
According to the report, at a meeting of the Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the candidate nominated by the President of Uzbekistan for the post of Chairperson of the Supreme Court was considered in accordance with the Constitution of Uzbekistan and the Constitutional Law “On the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
Following the discussion, the Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis adopted a resolution to elect Robakhon Anvarovna Mahmudova to a judicial position for an indefinite term and as Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan for five years.
For reference, Robakhon Anvarovna Mahmudova is Chairperson of the Political Council of the Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and head of the Adolat SDP faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. She was born on November 9, 1958, in Fergana district, Fergana region, into an intellectual family. In 1983, she graduated from the Faculty of Law of Tashkent State University.
During her career, she worked as head of the Fergana regional People’s Reception Office, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Science, Education and Healthcare, and First Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Judicial Collegium for Administrative Cases.
In 2023, she took part in the early presidential election as a candidate from the Adolat party and received 4.43% of the vote, placing second after Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who was re-elected as Head of State. During the election campaign and the election period, her judicial powers were suspended.
Earlier, it was reported that Bakhtiyor Jahongirovich Islomov had been dismissed from the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court ahead of schedule.
