Uzbekistan welcomes agreement between U.S. and Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as an important diplomatic achievement toward restoring regional security and stability.
According to the ministry’s statement, the agreement reached amid the current complex international situation is an important step toward easing tensions and achieving peace.
Uzbekistan also particularly noted the political will and foresight shown by the leadership of the United States and Iran at a decisive moment. It was emphasized that the agreement creates a solid foundation for the lasting peace that the international community has long awaited.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly appreciated the contribution of Pakistan and Qatar, which played an important role in creating the necessary conditions for reaching the understanding, as well as the efforts of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other regional partners.
Uzbekistan expressed hope that the next stages of negotiations would continue in a constructive spirit and that the agreements reached would be effectively implemented in practice.
The statement emphasized that resolving disputes and contradictions through diplomatic means, based on the principles of international law, mutual respect and consideration of the interests of all parties, is the most important condition for ensuring peace and security.
Earlier, on June 18, the United States and Iran electronically signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. According to sources cited by Axios, the document has entered into force. The publication’s sources said the agreement was accelerated in order to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.
The parties agreed to sign the document electronically, eliminating the need for a previously planned official ceremony in Geneva.
After that, the United States lifted the naval blockade imposed against Iran and reopened all sea routes leading to the country’s ports for vessel traffic.
