Opta assesses Uzbekistan’s chances of reaching World Cup playoffs

After the match against Colombia, the supercomputer of analytics company Opta assessed Uzbekistan’s chances of reaching the playoffs of the 2026 World Cup. This was announced on the company’s official website.

According to the updated forecast, Uzbekistan’s national team has a 0.99% chance of finishing first in its group. The team’s chances of reaching the playoff stage are estimated at 21.90%.

According to Opta’s calculations, Uzbekistan has a 21.90% chance of reaching the round of 32 and a 4.55% chance of advancing to the round of 16. The team’s chances of reaching the quarterfinals are estimated at 1.26%, the semifinals at 0.33% and the final at 0.08%.

The supercomputer forecast put Uzbekistan’s chances of becoming world champion at 0.01%.

According to the calculations, France is currently considered the main favorite to win the World Cup. The French team won 15.73% of the 10,000 tournament simulations. Before the start of the tournament, Opta had named Spain as the main favorite, with its chances of winning the title estimated at 16.1%. However, after Spain’s defeat in the first round, the team dropped to fourth place with 12.08%.

England ranks second among the title contenders with a 12.33% chance of winning the World Cup. Defending world champion Argentina’s chances of winning the trophy are estimated at 12.28%.

Uzbekistan, led by Fabio Cannavaro, lost its first World Cup match to Colombia 3-1.
