Sherzod Kudbiyev, head of the National Committee for Urbanization and Housing Market Development, has faced online criticism after appearing at a presidential meeting wearing a watch reportedly worth around $50,000.

The controversy began after images from the meeting circulated online, drawing attention to the value of the watch and the possible source of funds used to purchase it. Social media users and bloggers speculated that the timepiece could be a luxury model from Breguet, possibly from the Marine collection, or Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas line, estimating its price at around $50,000.

The discussion has also highlighted broader public interest in the assets of public officials, with many users noting that such scrutiny is a normal feature of a democratic society.

Amid growing debate online, Kudbiyev released a video statement addressing the issue.

“First of all, it is true that this watch is very valuable to me and reminds me of many things. However, regardless of that, a public servant must, above all, remain modest,” he said.

He also agreed that officials should strictly adhere to professional ethics, especially during public events and meetings.

“Therefore, particularly at meetings and similar events, it is important to strictly follow professional ethics and demonstrate modesty as a public servant. This has been an important lesson for me, and I intend to act accordingly going forward,” he added.

However, he did not clarify how the watch was acquired.

Earlier, Ozodbek Nazarbekov also drew attention after attending a youth meeting in Andijan wearing expensive footwear from Hermès, reportedly valued at over $1,200 in European and U.S. markets.
