Uzbek student dies in shooting in the United States (video)

Two students were killed and seven others injured in a shooting that occurred on December 13 at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Among the victims was an Uzbek national, Muhammadaziz Umurzoqov, born in 2007. QALAMPIR.UZ contacted the deceased student’s relatives.

According to available information, at least two people were confirmed dead and seven others seriously injured as a result of the shooting at Brown University, one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in the United States. An Uzbek student was among those killed. The victim’s family had been residing in the United States.

“Muhammadaziz was cherished for his sharp intellect, kindness, and constant willingness to help others. He was a modest and open-hearted person who earned deep respect from those around him. He will remain in our memories as a talented student, a beloved son, brother, and friend,” said one of his relatives.

A fundraising campaign has been launched in memory of the deceased. It is reported that the funds will be used to cover legal expenses and funeral-related costs.

Following the tragedy, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deep condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. It was also stated that representatives of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions in the United States are in constant contact with the victim’s family and are working closely with relevant US authorities to address all related matters.

A 24-year-old man, Benjamin Erickson, has been detained on suspicion of carrying out the shooting. Reports indicate that he previously served in the US Armed Forces and had undergone sniper training.

It is worth noting that in 2024, a 46-year-old Uzbek national, Jamshid Ne’matov, who had stabbed his wife at least twice during a holiday gathering in New York, causing serious injuries, was shot dead by police.
