Amazon plans to bring satellite internet to Uzbekistan

The US-based company Amazon plans to launch its Kuiper satellite internet service in Uzbekistan. The announcement was made during a meeting between Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov and representatives of Amazon Kuiper, held within the framework of the American business mission in Tashkent.
It was noted that Minister Sherzod Shermatov discussed opportunities for cooperation with Amazon representatives aimed at improving the country’s digital infrastructure.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed potential opportunities for cooperation in developing digital infrastructure and enhancing broadband internet services.
At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Digital Technologies and Amazon Kuiper Commercial Services.
The document facilitates cooperation to enhance telecommunication infrastructure across Uzbekistan and expand access to high-speed internet through the utilization of the Kuiper project’s satellite network.
Amazon Kuiper is a division of Amazon implementing a global satellite internet project aimed at providing high-speed internet connectivity worldwide via a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. Additionally, the connection speed may reach up to 400 Mbps, with plans to increase it to 1 Gbps.
It was earlier reported that Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, may open an office in Uzbekistan.
