During a busy sports week, notable events included the potential European transfer of footballer Abdukodir Khusanov and the appointment of Paralympic champion Asila Mirzayorova to an official role. These, among other highlights, are discussed in the latest Sports Digest of QALAMPIR.UZ.
Abdukodir Khusanov's Football Achievements and Transfer Prospects
Uzbekistan national team defender and current player for the French club "Lens," Abdukodir Khusanov, earned a spot in the symbolic team of the 8th round of the French Championship. His performance in the recent 1:1 draw against "Rennes" earned him 7 points, according to "L'Equipe."
Khusanov, recognized for completing 88.7% of his passes, could be on the move soon. Reports from "BeFutbol" indicate that English club "Arsenal" is showing interest in the 20-year-old defender, drawing comparisons to current "Gunners" player William Saliba due to Khusanov's speed and composure. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is considering him as a replacement for Brazilian defender Marquinhos.
Sources say that "Lens" expects to earn at least 40 million euros from Khusanov's transfer next summer, with his market value currently estimated between 30-40 million euros. Khusanov, who has appeared in all matches for "Lens" this season, was also named the best under-20 defender in Europe's top-5 leagues by "Datamb.football." He is now a contender for the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) award for the best young player of the year.
Interest from Other Clubs
Khusanov’s impressive record has caught the attention of other Premier League clubs, including "Newcastle," "Everton," and "Chelsea," with several media outlets discussing his potential move to England. Since joining "Lens," Khusanov has played 63 games, scoring 4 goals and making 4 assists. His contract with the French club runs until the summer of 2027.
Asila Mirzayorova's New Role
Paralympic champion Asila Mirzayorova was recently appointed as a special representative for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities at Uzbekistan's National Agency for Social Protection. The announcement was made during an event on October 22, where Mirzayorova was welcomed by Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva, who emphasized the importance of Mirzayorova’s new role.
"It is a great honor and responsibility for me to serve as a special representative for the rights of persons with disabilities. This role will allow me to contribute to creating equal opportunities," Mirzayorova said, expressing her commitment to overcoming physical and social barriers and promoting inclusivity.
Mirzayorova’s appointment follows that of Diyora Keldiyorova, a judo champion, who also serves as a special representative for combating gender inequality and child violence. Both athletes are part of efforts to ensure inclusivity and equality in Uzbekistan.
Born in 1999 in Karshi, Asila Mirzayorova is a celebrated para-athlete who won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in para-athletics and is a two-time World Championship winner.
