Twenty-two kindergarten children poisoned in Fergana discharged from hospital

Earlier, reports emerged of mass food poisoning among children in kindergartens in the Fergana region. Twenty-two children have been discharged after their condition improved, the regional Health Department reported.

According to the department, the situation related to the nutrition of children at several state preschool institutions in Fergana city has been taken under full control.

As of 08:00 on February 25, 22 children who had been receiving treatment at the regional infectious diseases hospital and the Fergana City Children’s Hospital were discharged due to improvements in their health. They will remain under outpatient supervision.

“The condition of the remaining patients is relatively satisfactory. It is planned to discharge several more children by the end of today,” the statement said.

Specialists have conducted inspections in the kitchens of the preschool institutions and at the food supply company. Laboratory samples have been sent for analysis, and the results will be announced to the public within 10 days.

It was added that the situation is being examined by the relevant authorities in accordance with established procedures.

On February 21, the duty unit of the Fergana City Department of Internal Affairs received reports that children from state preschool institutions No. 58, No. 2, and No. 61 had sought medical assistance at the infectious diseases hospital with symptoms including fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 257-1 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (violation of sanitary legislation or anti-epidemic rules), and preliminary investigative actions are underway with all necessary examinations appointed.
