International Narcotics Control Board mission to visit Uzbekistan

On April 20, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva met with Stefano Berterame, Secretary of the International Narcotics Control Board, on the sidelines of an international forum on combating drug threats held in Samarkand. Mirziyoyeva announced the meeting on her Telegram channel.

According to her statement, the talks focused on developing analytical and laboratory capacity, introducing digital monitoring tools, and training specialists in the field.

“Very important and serious issues were discussed. We are consistently improving the national system for controlling the circulation of narcotic substances. In this regard, the conclusions of international experts are of great importance to us,” Mirziyoyeva said.

During the meeting, practical issues related to the upcoming visit of the board’s mission to Uzbekistan were also discussed.

It is worth noting that on April 20, during the global forum titled “Combating Transnational Drug Threats to Ensure Public Health and Safety,” it was announced that the headquarters of the Central Asian Association of Narcologists would be established in the region.

Mirziyoyeva also held meetings as part of the forum with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Bo Mathiasen, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
