Kazakhstan has been named the most peaceful country in Central Asia, ranking 56th in the Global Peace Index (GPI) published by the Institute for Economics and Peace. This was stated in the organization's latest report.

The GPI covers 99.7 percent of the world’s population and is calculated based on 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators. These indicators, drawn from reliable international sources, assess the level of peace in countries across three main areas:

  •  The level of societal safety and security
  •  The extent of ongoing domestic and international conflicts
  •  The degree of militarization

The index evaluates factors such as the absence of armed conflicts, public safety, crime rates, relations with neighboring countries, and military spending.

According to the report, Central Asian countries ranked as follows:

  •  Kazakhstan — 56th place
  •  Uzbekistan — 67th place
  •  Kyrgyzstan — 78th place
  •  Tajikistan — 79th place
  •  Turkmenistan — 87th place

Globally, Iceland remains the most peaceful country, followed by Ireland and New Zealand. Russia ranks last at 163rd place, with Ukraine one spot higher at 162nd. The United States is ranked 128th, Israel 155th, and Iran 142nd.

It is worth noting that earlier, in the "Oxford Economics Global Cities Index", Almaty, Kazakhstan, was recognized as the best city in Central Asia, ranking 258th globally. The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, was ranked third among Central Asian cities and 471st in the world.
