First governor of Navoiy passes away

Abdukholiq Aydarkulov, the first governor of Navoiy region, has passed away at the age of 83, the regional administration’s press service reported.

Born in 1942 in Tashkent region, Aydarkulov held various positions throughout his career. From 1964 to 1965, he headed repair workshops at a state farm. Between 1966 and 1977, he worked in the district branch of “Uzselkhoztekhnika” as a process engineer, supervising engineer, chief engineer, and manager. From 1977 to 1986, he served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Bustonliq District of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan and as the district party committee’s first secretary. Between 1986 and 1988, he held positions as secretary of the Navoiy Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan and chairman of the regional executive committee. In 1988, he became chairman of the Syrdarya Regional Executive Committee and, in September 1990, the first secretary of the Syrdarya Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

In 1990, he was elected as a deputy to the 12th convocation of the Supreme Council of the Uzbek SSR. He later served as governor of Navoiy region from January 28, 1992, to January 5, 1995.

It is worth noting that earlier, Damir Yodgorov, who served as governor of Bukhara region from 1992 to 1994, passed away at the age of 88.
