Najmiddin Kosimkhojiyev becomes World Champion

Najmiddin Kosimkhojiyev, a member of Uzbekistan’s national taekwondo team (–74 kg), has won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo (WT) Championships, which is coming to an end in Wuxi, China.

In the final bout, Kosimkhojiyev faced Edival Pontes of Brazil, an Olympic and World Championship medalist. In a decisive match, Kosimkhojiyev defeated his opponent and brought the gold medal to the national team’s tally.

  • Silver medal: Edival Pontes (Brazil)
  • Bronze medal: Magomed Abdusalamov (Neutral status athlete)
  • Bronze medal: Amir Sina Bakhtiari (Iran)

Thus, Najmiddin Kosimkhojiyev won the first World Championship gold medal of his career. The Uzbekistan national team concluded the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships with one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan’s national team members Jahongir Khudoyberdiyev and Svetlana Osipova had also claimed medals at the ongoing World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China.
