The “Samarkand-2028” satellite, developed by China’s StarVision company, is expected to be launched in May this year, the press service of the Uzbekcosmos agency said.
According to the agency, the Space Technology Conference 2026, the largest international forum for the space technology network in Central Eurasia, was held in Tashkent from March 30 to April 1 this year. The conference served to strengthen Uzbekistan’s role as a leading hub for space technologies in Central Eurasia. Discussions during the event focused on joint satellite development and the implementation of scientific projects.
It is worth noting that in November 2025, Uzbekcosmos and China’s StarVision signed a strategic memorandum on the development of satellite technologies and space applications. The sides agreed to implement joint projects, strengthen scientific and technological integration, and cooperate with universities and companies.
Under the memorandum, StarVision agreed to name one of its hyperspectral satellites “Samarkand-2028” and expressed support for the International Astronautical Congress, which is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan in 2028.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan may launch a 6U-format scientific satellite named “Mirzo Ulugbek” in 2028.
