International anti-drug forum to be held in Samarkand

A global forum titled “Combating Transnational Drug Threats: Health, Security and Sustainable Development” will be held on April 20–21 in Samarkand in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The announcement was made by the Agency for Control of Narcotics and Firearms under the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.

According to the organizers, the forum aims to enhance the effectiveness of efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, systematically study and implement best international practices, develop comprehensive approaches to addressing modern drug threats, and strengthen intergovernmental and international cooperation in countering drug abuse.

The event is expected to bring together representatives from more than 20 major international organizations, including the United Nations, Interpol, the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the World Customs Organization. Around 50 countries will be represented by law enforcement leaders, along with approximately 500 international experts and specialists.

During the forum, participants will discuss global and regional trends in illicit drug trafficking, the improvement of prevention systems among youth and minors, the development of treatment, rehabilitation and social reintegration processes, as well as the effective use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
