A tax official in the Kamashi district of Kashkadarya region has been caught accepting a $3,000 bribe, according to a report from the State Security Service.

A previously convicted individual, born in 1981 and residing in Kamashi, was found to have demanded a $4,000 bribe from the head of a bankrupt brick-producing LLC. The company had been declared insolvent by the Economic Court due to unpaid tax debts amounting to 360 million soums.

In exchange for lifting the restrictions imposed on the factory and resuming its operations, the man promised to use his connections with tax officials to cancel the plant’s closure.

An operation carried out jointly by the Kashkadarya regional departments of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes resulted in his detention while accepting an advance payment of $3,000.

Following the operation, the deputy head of the Kamashi district tax inspectorate—who was implicated in the scheme—was also detained with material evidence while receiving the same amount.

A criminal case has been initiated against both individuals, and an investigation is currently underway.

For context, a similar case was recently opened against the deputy mayor of Dehkanabad district, who allegedly demanded a 21 million soum bribe in return for concealing the non-delivery of 300 kilograms of cocoons.
