Meeting on comprehensive development of Surkhandarya region begins

A meeting on the comprehensive development of the Surkhandarya region has begun under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This was reported by Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov.
“Surkhandarya is not only a land of beautiful nature, but also the homeland of strong-spirited, determined, and dignified people. Developing Surkhandarya means strengthening the southern pillar of the New Uzbekistan,” the President said.
According to the report, more than 8,000 projects worth $5 billion have been launched in the region in recent years. Investment and trade agreements totaling an additional $10 billion have been reached with countries including China, the United States, Russia, India, Austria, and Hungary.
Over the past nine years, preschool enrollment has increased from 28 percent to 68 percent. Twenty-three new schools have been built, and 448 have been renovated. An additional 102,000 student places have been created.
During this period, 32,000 families have moved into 688 newly constructed apartment buildings. “Yangi Uzbekistan” residential complexes have been established in the districts of Angor, Boysun, Jarkurgan, Sariosiyo, and Termez.
As part of the “Use of Water from the Topalang Reservoir” project, drinking water supply has improved for 563,000 residents in the city of Termez and 10 districts of the region.
