Uzbekistan will introduce a trade-in mechanism to replace cars manufactured before 2010 that do not fully meet environmental standards. This is outlined in the presidential decree “On Urgent Measures to Improve the Environmental Situation in Tashkent,” signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 24 November.
The decree sets out specific measures aimed at reducing harmful emissions from vehicles in the capital.
For this purpose, Uzavtosanoat JSC and relevant agencies have been instructed to introduce a phased trade-in system in Tashkent to replace vehicles that do not meet environmental requirements and were manufactured before 2010.
With the launch of this system, old cars that have circulated on city roads for years and cause higher environmental damage will gradually be replaced with newer, more eco-friendly models. This is expected to give drivers additional opportunities to upgrade their vehicles while helping clear Tashkent’s skies from smog and improve overall air quality in the city.
It is worth noting that, according to the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution adopted on 4 September this year, the introduction of the “Eco Transport” system—aimed at reducing pollutant emissions from motor vehicles—was postponed until 1 January 2026. Under the system, vehicles will receive a green, yellow, or red sticker depending on their level of emissions.
