$50,000 bribe given to Interior Affairs officer in Tashkent (video)

A man who offered a bribe to a law enforcement officer in Tashkent has been detained. The Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs reported the incident.

According to the statement, as part of online monitoring activities, a criminal group consisting of four individuals involved in organizing or facilitating gambling and other risk-based games on social networks across the country, including Tashkent, was exposed and its operations halted.

The group provided services to foreign online gambling companies, transferring and legalizing funds obtained through gambling via various cryptocurrency platforms. During an operation conducted by the Department for Combating Cybercrimes of the Main Department of Internal Affairs, four mobile phones, one laptop, and twenty-one bank cards used for money laundering were seized as material evidence. The case materials have been forwarded to the Investigation Department.

During the pre-investigation inquiry, one of the suspects offered a $50,000 bribe to a senior official of the Department for Combating Cybercrimes of the Main Department of Internal Affairs in exchange for avoiding criminal prosecution for himself and his accomplices. However, the official refused the bribe and reported the incident to the leadership of the department. Following this, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Personal Security Department and the Prosecutor’s Office, a swift operation was carried out. The suspect was apprehended in the officer’s office while handing over the bribe.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 211 of the Criminal Code (Bribery). The suspect has been placed in custody as a preventive measure. The investigation is ongoing.

It is worth noting that earlier, a person who offered a bribe to an internal affairs officer in the Andijan region was also detained.
