On February 29, as part of an official visit to Ankara, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took part in the opening ceremony of the “Uzbekistan” residential complex built by the Uzbek side in Hatay Province, the presidential press service reported.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the devastating earthquake that occurred three years ago was a severe trial for the brotherly Turkish people. From the very first days of the tragedy, Uzbekistan began providing comprehensive assistance to Türkiye.

Within a short period, 100 Uzbek rescue workers and 70 medical personnel arrived in the disaster-affected area. As a result of search-and-rescue operations, 18 people were saved, and nearly 200 victims were pulled from the rubble. A field hospital provided medical assistance to around 4,000 patients.

It was also emphasized that, at the initiative of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, large-scale programs have been implemented to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake. To date, more than 455,000 housing units have been built across the country.

For its part, Uzbekistan constructed, within a short timeframe, a modern residential complex in the Arsuz district of Hatay Province, comprising more than 300 fully equipped apartments in a total of 24 multi-storey buildings, complete with all necessary infrastructure.

The Turkish president stressed that the complex represents not only a new home for affected families but also a vivid symbol of the enduring friendship between the Uzbek and Turkish peoples.

The leaders expressed their sincere gratitude to the builders, engineers, workers, and all partners involved in implementing the project.

The heads of state also ceremonially handed over the keys to the new apartments to their owners.

In addition, the presidents launched the construction of an Uzbek school in Istanbul’s Bakırköy district. This institution will become Uzbekistan’s first educational establishment abroad.

The new school will enable children of Uzbek families living in Türkiye to receive education in their native language while preserving national values, culture, and traditions.

The sides expressed confidence that the school will further strengthen ties between the two brotherly nations and become an important center of education and upbringing for the younger generation.
