On April 13, an Uzbek citizen was found to have taken unauthorized photographs of a Turkish woman in the Istanbul metro. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul reported the incident, warning fellow citizens to strictly observe Turkish laws.

Following the woman’s complaint, Turkish law enforcement detained the Uzbek national and launched an investigation into the case, which was treated as a violation of privacy. As a consequence, the individual's Turkish work permit was revoked. Administrative penalties are currently being imposed, including the initiation of deportation proceedings.

Due to the intervention of the Consulate General, the individual was released from criminal liability. However, the case has served as a strong reminder of the legal risks involved in such behavior.

“During your stay in Turkey, strictly adhere to local laws and regulations. Taking photographs or recording videos of strangers without their consent, or causing discomfort to others, can lead to serious legal consequences. Exercise caution in your actions to avoid legal trouble,” the Consulate General stated.

For reference, under Turkish law, capturing images or videos of another person—particularly women—without explicit permission is strictly prohibited and may result in criminal prosecution.

The Consulate also reiterated previous warnings to Uzbeks residing in or traveling to Turkey: avoid falling for false job offers and remain vigilant to protect your legal status and well-being abroad.
