Russia and Uzbekistan have confirmed several aspects of allowing Russian citizens to enter Uzbekistan using domestic passports, the Izvestia reported, citing its sources.
’’The negotiation process on this issue is ongoing, and the necessary internal procedures are being carried out. The sides are currently coordinating specific aspects, so it is too early to speak about exact dates,’’ the report said.
In May of this year, it was reported that Uzbekistan was planning to allow citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan to enter the country using domestic passports.
On September 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are rapidly developing. He expressed confidence that bilateral ties will continue to expand in all areas, serving the interests of both peoples and contributing to security in Central Asia.
QALAMPIR.UZ contacted the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Akhror Burkhanov, regarding the project on entering the country with domestic passports. The MFA representative confirmed that the issue is indeed on the agenda. However, he noted that the process is still under review, and it is too early to specify the exact date when travel without foreign passports will begin.
It is permissible to mention that since September 1, 2023, citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have been using identification ID cards to cross the border between the two countries.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan began discussing the possibility of recognizing ID cards as official documents for crossing the border between the two countries.
