A statement by Kamchybek Tashiev, who was dismissed as head of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security by a decree of President Sadyr Japarov, has been released. The report was published on February 11 by Kaktus Media, citing journalist Nurgazi Anorkulova.
According to the report, Tashiev had traveled to Germany for medical treatment with the president’s permission due to health issues. He said the decision to dismiss him came as a surprise.
“Nevertheless, we will obey the president’s decision. I served our state, our people and our president with honor, and I am proud of it. I was a little upset that I was not given the opportunity to say goodbye to the personnel,” the former official said.
Tashiev also thanked employees of the State Committee for National Security and wished them success in their future work. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the country and said all actions must remain within the law.
Earlier, Tashiev was dismissed and replaced by his deputy Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov as acting chairman. Presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov said the decision was made in the interests of the state to prevent divisions in society and government institutions and to strengthen unity. Three of Tashiev’s deputies were also dismissed.
Recently, rumors circulated in political circles that the security chief might take part in the upcoming presidential election. Tashiev repeatedly stated that he did not intend to run and would support President Sadyr Japarov.
