Sayyora Abdukarimova, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate committee on agrarian, water management, and ecology affairs, has sent a senatorial inquiry to Tashkent mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov regarding the planned construction of a park on the territory of the former ’’Toshturma’’ prison. This was reported by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

According to resolution no. 220-f of the Cabinet of Ministers adopted on March 22, 2018, the buildings and facilities of the former Pretrial detention center no. 1, located at 1 Namangan street, Yunusabad district, Tashkent, along with the adjacent territory, were transferred to the balance of the Tashkent city administration. The resolution assigned the task of constructing a modern park (recreation area) equipped with all necessary infrastructure on the site.

According to the senator, despite the considerable time that has passed, the tasks outlined in the resolution have not yet been fully implemented. At present, the area remains neglected, and attempts by certain construction companies to use the territory for private interests have caused justified public discontent.

Taking these circumstances into account, the senator has sent an official inquiry to the Tashkent mayor.

Senator Abdukarimova requested that the Tashkent mayor provide a substantiated explanation regarding the current condition of the territory, the reasons for delays in fulfilling the tasks specified in the resolution, and the practical measures taken to improve the area and establish a modern park.

It is worth noting that earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Senate committee on budget and economic issues, Kabul Tursunov, had also sent a senatorial inquiry addressed to Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov.
