The deputy mayor of the Jalakuduk district of Andijan region has been detained for accepting a bribe. He allegedly arranged for a farmer’s dacha to be registered in his daughter-in-law’s name. This was reported by the State Security Service (SSS).
According to the SSS, the deputy mayor colluded with an official from the Andijan regional Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change. They demanded that a 10-acre country house in Khanabad belonging to a local farmer be transferred to the deputy khokim’s relative. In exchange, they promised not to file a lawsuit seeking 4.1 billion soums in damages identified at a fish farm in the district, not to increase the amount of damages tenfold as permitted under a Cabinet of Ministers resolution, and to halt inspection activities.
The scheme was uncovered when the deputy mayor's brother received the cadastral documents from the farmer and registered the property in his wife’s name at a private notary’s office.
A criminal case has been opened against the deputy governor and the ecology department official under Article 210, Part 2, Clause “g” of the Criminal Code (Bribery). Both suspects have been placed in pre-trial detention.
Earlier, it was reported that the chief specialist of the Namangan regional branch of the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers was also detained for taking a bribe.
