Mirziyoyev meets with UNICEF Executive Director

On May 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Catherine Russell, Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), who is currently visiting Uzbekistan. The meeting was reported by the Presidential Press Service.
Discussions focused on expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNICEF. At the beginning of the meeting, Catherine Russell conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.

The parties emphasized the importance of improving legislation related to child welfare, introducing new support mechanisms, strengthening the social services system, training qualified personnel, expanding access to and enhancing the quality of social services, developing national standards, promoting social insurance, and advancing inclusive education. They also discussed implementing joint efforts in other priority areas.
An agreement was reached to adopt a new country program extending to 2030. In addition, the sides agreed to jointly organize several international events dedicated to the protection and promotion of children's rights.
It is worth noting that just a day earlier, on May 26, President Mirziyoyev met with Antonio Fernandez Arimani, President of the World Triathlon Union, who was in Uzbekistan for the Triathlon and Paratriathlon World Cup held in Samarkand.
