Depression and suicide: Growing concern in Uzbekistan

In a heartbreaking incident, a 14-year-old girl in the Navoi region took her own life in the utility room of her home. The news was confirmed by Hayot Shamsutdinov, the press secretary of the General Prosecutor's Office.

According to the report, the minor, identified as I.J., born in 2010, hanged herself with a rope in the utility room of her residence in the Karmana district on February 28 at around 10:30 AM. She was found dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation results indicate that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia. The Karmana district prosecutor's office is currently conducting a pre-investigation check into the incident.

It is worth noting that last month, a 17-year-old girl in the Qashqadaryo region committed suicide by jumping from the roof of a 16-story building. Additionally, a 19-year-old female student in the Samarkand region took her own life by jumping from the 9th floor.
